May 21, 2005: Tucson, AZ, Book Tour Visit.
Pink Tusconites, by Nancy Hill
On Saturday, May 21, Medea Benjamin spoke to Tucsonites at Reader's Oasis. The bookstore was so crowded that people were sitting on the bookshelves and standing outside to hear what Medea had to say.
Jeff and the whole Reader's Oasis crew were marvelously generous, helpful and quite pink-at-heart in donating their space, allowing banners to be plastered up all over the place, and turning a blind eye to all the pink crumbs we created. Businesses such as the Reader's Oasis feed peace and justice in an essential and far too often overlooked manner. They provide information and meeting places that directly promote freedom of thought and speech. This event was a potent reminder that we should support independent bookstores in our community. They are more valuable than we know. Wild Oats Market at the Rancho Center donated a beautiful and sumptuous spread at the book signing. And it was PINK! Thanks to Felicity, the Assistant Manager at Wild Oats! We can't overstate the importance of these details, which created an atmosphere that was welcoming, positive, and encouraged us to talk and extend our peace-building actions. Without the support of such ethical corporate entities our efforts would be ever so much more difficult. CODEPINK salutes businesses that feed liberty in such a literal fashion!
