Medea Benjamin and the now famous Desiree "bloody hands" Ali-Fairooz, along with supporters including one wearing a Bush mask, with blood on the chin, and a "war criminal" t-shirt greeted Bush outside the Heritage Foundation before his speech.

While giving a talk at the Heritage Foundation on November 1, George Bush said:

"I ask Congress to send me a clean veterans funding bill by Veterans Day; and to pass a clean defense spending bill. Congress needs to put the needs of those who put on the uniform ahead of their desire to spend more money. When it comes to funding our troops, some in Washington should spend more time responding to the warnings of terrorists like Osama bin Laden and the requests of our commanders on the ground, and less time responding to the demands of MoveOn.org bloggers and Code Pink protesters. (Applause.) "

We appreciate Bush acknowledging CODEPINK but wish he had listened to us back in 2002 when we said that attacking Iraq would be a disaster. Let's make him listen to us now about Iran!

CODEPINK's Rae Abileah speaks out in response to Bush:

It's Great: Bush's mention of CODEPINK today is an acknowledgement of our daily actions both in Congress and around the country aimed at ending the US occupation of Iraq. And it's not just about CODEPINK and MoveOn, as Bush included the entire blogosphere, a major source of news for people who distrust major media networks, and a web community that includes millions of Americans!! Bush tried to make us look like fringe left, when we're in the majority, and it was a big acknowledgement.

With the Generals: The peace movement is in agreement with the dozens of generals who have been very critical of Bush's strategy in Iraq, including Petraeus' predecessor, Gen. Eaton. There's enough funding to bring our troops home; the majority (Americans, troops in Iraq, and Iraqis) want our troops home; over 90 reps have pledged to only fully fund a withdrawal and their numbers are growing every week. The solution to the crisis in Iraq will not be found by continuing to fund a military occupation. Funding the war is killing our troops.

CODEPINK's creative tactics: This month marks 5 years of CODEPINK movement, which was started by a tongue-in-cheek response to fear-mongering color coded terror alerts; humor and joy and vibrant pink reaches people but there is a serious undertone—the cost of war is astronomical in both financial and human numbers.
