Protesters besiege mortgage convention ,October 23rd, 2008 |
"SAN FRANCISCO -- It looked like a scene from the 2006 "Borat" movie: Mortgage executives at a large gathering caught off-guard by disturbances in the audience. But unlike the movie, where Borat streaks through a ballroom of mortgage brokers without a stitch of clothing, the protesters who charged the stage at the Mortgage Bankers Association's annual convention this week weren't going for laughs. Much of the contretemps involved political group Code Pink, originally founded by women to protest the Iraq war. But the group has started to focus on the housing crisis and its economic fallout." |
