Afghanistan

From Rethink Afghanistan:

President Obama has committed 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan. This decision raises serious questions about troops, costs, overall mission, and exit strategy. Historically, it has been Congress’ duty to ask questions in the form of oversight hearings that challenge policymakers, examine military spending, and educate the public. After witnessing the absence of oversight regarding the Iraq war, we must insist Congress hold hearings on Afghanistan.

A growing number of Members of Congress are questioning a troop escalation in Afghanistan.  Here’s what you can do:

  1. Submit a video to Congress asking your questions about Afghanistan. You could ask, why do you fund weapons and warriors, not doctors, teachers, and farmers? Wouldn’t a humanitarian approach be more effective than a military one? How many years, dollars, and lives will this war cost? What are our objectives in Afghanistan and what is our exit strategy? You can also check out what questions others are asking on Rethink Afghanistan. Here’s how you can submit:
    • Using your webcam or video camera, record a message to Congress. Identify yourself as a CODEPINK member in your video.
    • Upload your video to YouTube.
    • Email the link to videos4codepink@gmail.com
  2.

  3. Contact your Representative today to ask him/her to sign on to the Congressional Letter to Obama, that asks Obama to reconsider the escalation of 17,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Learn more here.

“You could ask, why do you fund weapons and warriors, not doctors, teachers, and farmers?”

Because the are getting attacked and killed. Or actively attacking schools. Here is a photo of a girls school that was bombed two years ago because they where teaching children something other then strict Islam.

    Aid workers under attack.

I just wanted to say that I do believe that a better world would be that of one with no war. But honestly we have to do things in a way that would make it safe for our way of life. I think the time line thing is more for the people of the US and the world but it doesn’t keep the best interest of the troops and our safety in the world. I am a disabled female veteran of OIF and I do want the war to stop and us to have peace but time lines seem to bring unsettling feelings to my heart knowing what I did know when I was in the service it use makes us more open to harm and I just want our way of life and the life countries with which we choose to help to be safe. PLease everyone, peace is better but keep in mind our safety, we must be safe and smart about getting out of any country. Please think about that the ones that don’t like our way of life don’t care about our lives. But we should! Please just think about our safety before you rally on something could not be good for our safety. We need to stand together, one nation, together and stop the violence with in our country first.
