Karen, your letter is so well written! It's so easy to understand why war just doesn't make sense! I hope to read more in the future.

Kris,
Thank you! When I get a reply to the letter I sent to the White House, I'll post it here.

TLM,
I hear you. If you're anywhere near Bismarck, ND, on Tuesday Dec 15th at 4 PM, we'd love for you to join us for our action at the Federal Building!

Michael,
Absolutely. The real causes of the war have everything to do with the big picture Joe Bageant talks about.

In my letter, my first intention was to argue against the Administration's outward rationale for the war against the people of Afghanistan. My second intention was to find words we can use to discuss this rationale with those who earnestly believe it. We need to address not only the secret motivations of our leaders, but also the ways our war-making leaders garner societal support.

Peace to all,
Karen

While I appreciate you're arguing against the popular rationale for the war, you're not arguing against the reason for the war. And as long as we keep buying into the rationale, we're never going to correct the problem.
To quote Joe Bageant's recent essay, "Americans may be starting to get the big picture about politics, money and corporate power. But I doubt it. Given that most still believe the war on terrorism is real, and that terrorists always just happen to be found near gas and oil deposits, there is plenty of room left to blow more smoke up their..."

terrorists always just happen to be found near gas and oil deposits,

We can continue to debate over the pretexts, or we can start addressing the real causes.

Well done. We've been wondering where our anti-war/peace movement has been for the past 22 months. Thought perhaps they were awol. I hope we get as enraged about this massive acceleration as we were when Bush was the puppet in charge. There are more troops under the Obama administration than there ever were under Bush. In other words ... we ain't seen nothin' yet! Obama is a far worse war monger, trouble is this war has a persuasive teleprompter behind it.
