PINKtank: the personal is political is the witty, cute, and smart-as hell online magazine of CODEPINK. Our name—like the group itself—is inspired by the war. Most think tanks (or policy institutes) are organizations, corporation, or groups that conduct research and engage in advocacy in areas such as social policy, political and military strategy, economy, science or technology issues, industrial or business policies. The term think tank was first used in reference to organizations that offered military advice, most notably the RAND Corporation. The phrase “think tank” in wartime America referred to rooms in which strategists discussed war planning. PINKtank is a space where we strategize peace.
CODEPINK is a women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement working to end the war in Iraq, stop new wars, and redirect our resources into healthcare, education and other life-affirming activities. CODEPINK rejects the government’s fear-based politics that justify violence, and instead calls for policies based on compassion, kindness and a commitment to international law. With an emphasis on joy and humor, CODEPINK women and men seek to activate, amplify and inspire a community of peacemakers through creative campaigns and a commitment to non-violence.
