The Anaheim Police were extremely polite and extremely prepared this morning for our Demo at the Convention Center! Four cop cars for three protesters? But maybe we needed them! Most of the "Deli/Baker/Deli" attendees didn't like our chants such as, "Bloody Hands, Bloody Hands, Condi Rice has Bloody Hands!" Perhaps it was because they were there for Condi's Keynote Speech! More than a handful made loud, rude comments, some with hand gestures and waving arms. One elderly man with a hat, which warned us, "Grump", flipped us the bird as he crossed the street in his wheel chair. I changed my tactic, and started singing! Perhaps the cavernous auto foyers of these huge hotels in which our chants actually echoed inspired me! I brought lyrics on paper, but I also made up songs on the spot, "There were No Weapons of Mass Destruction, Only Weapons of Mass Deception! Condi Lied, Millions Died! Prosecute War Criminals!" People seemed less offended - but was the message getting through? I made sure it did! "Shame on Bakers for Handing Out the Dough to a Wanted War Criminal! It amazes and frightens me how cold hearted people have become! "Get a job!" someone yells, and I forget my usual retort, "Get a conscience!" Later, I think of a better, more thoughtful one, "Millions have died. We have blood on our hands. I have a conscience. Do you have a conscience?" I'm glad we could be there for the less than a handful who stopped to thank us, to discuss Rice, and cheer us on. Corporations such as the ones at the Big Agri, Big Food convention at Anaheim this week, are the ones getting huge subsidies and bailouts and evading their taxes, while poisoning our food, air and land. I'm not surprised she spoke at this convention. To me it shows the complicity of Big Food with the Bush Administration's inhumanity and utter lack of care for humankind.
