My Life as a CODEPINK Intern January 18, 2012 CODEPINK Washington, DC | |

It's been one year since I began working with CODEPINK -- My first day as an intern was January 17th 2011 and now I am a full-time national staff member!
I arrived the night before- with way too much stuff- at Union Station, where I was greeted warmly by Medea and Tighe and then dropped off at the home of Jenefer E, my awesome hostess for the next couple weeks (after picking up enough groceries to last me until...now). Medea told me to meet her at the FBI building at noon the next day, and that's when the excitement began.
The next day after hours of protesting FBI spying and the mistreatment of Bradley Manning in front of the Edgar J Hoover building in what felt like Arctic temperatures, we trucked down to Quantico Marine Base for several more hours of marching in the freezing cold- many people in Guantanamo prisoner outfits, and everyone else holding a picture of Bradley Manning's face in front of their own. I didn't know anyone who was there that day, but today I could probably name most of them and tell you a little bit about each person. After the Bradley Manning support rally, a group of peace activists converged at some sort of armed services museum where we discussed the coming year, and I pretended to know what everyone was talking about. Afterwards I joined a group of classic CODEPINKers- including Susan Harman, Cynthia Papermaster and Joan Stallard- for dinner in downtown DC and I listened to stories of CODEPINK activism over the years. What a first day!! And the nonstop excitement and learning hasn't stopped since.
Thank you!
