On May 1, 2012, the San Francisco 99% Coalition, a group of Bay Area progressives gathered at UN Plaza in San Francisco to protest the NDAA, (the National Defense Authorization Act). Poet Angelina Llongueras, a member of the Revolutionary Poets Brigade, read her latest poetry; singers Jack Chernos and Carol Denny, both of the Bay Area, sang and Tamara Cushway of CODEPINK spoke about the perilous threat to our civil liberties that NDAA poses. In addition, Bob Meola of Courage to Resist and Rachel Roberts of CAIR were also in attendance and spoke passionately about the erosion of our civil rights. The Universal Declaration of civil rights was presented and plans to present petitions to local cities and municipalities to encourage activists to petition against this dangerous act.
