Memorial Day at the MRS

May 26, 2008
East Bay CODEPINK
Berkeley, CA
We had an AWESOME demo for Memorial Day. At least 20 people showed up to the Marine Recruiting Station (MRS). We tagged shoes with the names of Iraq and U.S. dead, hung them on the gate across the recruiters' door, and spread them out across the sidewalk.

We hung up 1000 U.S. soldiers' names on pink slips of fabric; and we made huge "NO MORE MEMORIALS" and "NO MORE WAR" and taped those to the front of the MRS.

In our circle, we introduced ourselves and talked about what brought us out this horrible Memorial Day. We sang, shared our sorrows and our hopes, and spoke of stepping up our actions to END WAR NOW!

Several new folks joined us and many veterans of the war against military recruiting were there too. We chalked the sidewalk, then waved to the four police officers who stopped by, walked through our demo, and left!
