Declare Peace for Mother's Day

May 14, 2006
Codepink Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh, PA

Every year on Mother's Day, Codepink Pittsburgh gathers in Regent Square to declare peace for Mother's Day. This year approximately 50 members stood in the rain holding candles and a huge pink banner reading "Declare Peace for Mother's Day". The names of 118 Pennsylvanian National Guardsmen were read, as well as Julia Howe's Mother's Day proclamation. Our event had wonderful TV, as well as newspaper coverage, and the media was successful in capturing our message of "no more war", "no more Iraqi or US deaths", and "no threats of future military agression by the US." Members cut a large pink birthday cake to celebrate 4 years of Pink resistance- Codepink Pittsburgh was founded on Mother's Day 2002.
