Under the Hood Fundraiser

October 24, 2009
SF Code Pink
San Francisco, CA

A fundraiser for the Under The Hood Outreach Center & Cafe of Killeen, TX, next to the largest Army base in the US, happened at The Peace Cafe at the Red Vic at 1665 Haight, San Francisco. About $800 was raised at the event.

Musical groups included Annie & the Vets, and The Peaceniks. Speakers included Doug Zachary from Austin VFP, a rep from IVAW. Clips from the film "SIR! NO SIR!" on resistance within the military during the Vietnam War and a short documentary on Under the Hood were shown to the crowd.

In the spirit of the GI resistance coffeehouse movement during the Viet Nam War, Under the Hood (UTH) Outreach Center and Cafe is where the troops and the peace movement meet. Operated by Iraq Veterans for Peace, CODEPINK, & Vets for Peace, UTH provides a safe place for soldiers at Fort Hood to meet, unwind, and freely express feelings on war, peace, and GI rights and responsibilities.
